Hot-water extraction, shampooing, dry cleaning: which one do I need?
Hot-water extraction is what we use on most jobs. It flushes the fine mineral dust and hillside grit that settles deep in Studio City carpet, and Shaw, Mohawk and Stainmaster all list it as the approved method. Shampooing puts more detergent and mechanical agitation into heavily soiled commercial-grade loop, but it leaves residue behind unless it's rinsed. Dry or low-moisture cleaning is for wool, some Karastan and Masland goods, and situations where a room has to go back into use immediately.

What's a realistic cleaning schedule for a house like mine?

How do you price a job?

Do you move the furniture?
We move sofas, chairs, tables and lighter dressers, then set them back on blocks or pads so damp pile doesn't pick up stain from wood feet. We leave beds with drawers underneath, pianos, large china cabinets, wall units and electronics where they are and clean around them. If you want a piece moved, say so during the walkthrough and we'll tell you straight whether it's safe to shift. Clearing small items and floor clutter beforehand speeds the whole visit up.

Which stains will actually lift, and which ones are permanent?
Dry soil, tracked dirt, food and drink spills, grease, most pet accidents and general traffic-lane darkening come out with pretreatment and extraction. Older pet urine that soaked into pad and subfloor needs a separate treatment, and even then the result depends on how long it sat. Bleach, benzoyl peroxide from acne products, some dyes, mustard, and sun fading along south-facing windows are permanent color loss, not soil. No cleaner reverses those. Is this safe with pets and small kids in the house?
Yes. The solutions we use are chosen to rinse out cleanly, and hot-water extraction pulls the cleaning agent back out with the soil rather than leaving it in the pile. Pet ownership is high around here, so this comes up on most jobs. Keep animals and children out of the room until the carpet is dry, mostly so nobody slips or tracks the damp pile flat. Can you clean upholstery, area rugs and tile too?
Yes to all three. Sofas, sectionals, dining chairs and mattresses get cleaned with tools sized for the fabric. Older Studio City homes often have wood floors with area rugs in the living areas and wall-to-wall in bedrooms and on stairs, so we handle wool and synthetic rugs on site or off site depending on the piece. Tile and grout cleaning uses a pressurized rinse that pulls grit out of the grout lines instead of pushing it around.
